June 9th, 2001 (Backstage at Lyric Theater Academy of Performing Arts)

Midnight at the Summer Palace was
definitely the party of the summer,
with over 2000 guests joining in the
festivities to celebrate HK Magazine¹s
10th Year Anniversary. This was one
of the most challenging venues
with its vast area and 80 foot ceilings.
An incredible amount of creativity was
called for to transform an essentially
black room into a glorious Chinese palace.

The size of the venue allowed us to
implement some extremely theatrical
decoration techniques. From
elaborate staging backdrops to
80 foot Kabuki Drop Curtains
unveiling the midnight salute to HK
Magazine; to hanging one thousand
disco balls intermixed with Chinese
silk lanterns to streamers of ornate
Chinese brocade fabrics hanging from
the ceiling; all helped to create a truly
unique spectacle.
